First league loss of the season
Sparta had the opportunity to seal the title in Teplice, as any win would mean Plzeň could not reach them anymore. However, after a 1-3 defeat they will have to try again next time.
Due to four yellow cards, Sparta were missing their playmaker Marek Matějovský, but also Lukáš Mareček, who was sick, and so it was Kamil Vacek’s chance in the starting line-up.
However, Sparta had a very bad start to the game, letting the home side – Litsingi – opening the score after only eight minutes of play.
But the worst was still to come. Nivaldo finished Teplice’s counter attack with a huge shot in the 34th minute, and only six minutes later Jablonský added the third with a header.
Josef Hušbauer scored Sparta’s only goal of the game in the additional time of the first half.
In the second half, Sparta put the home side under constant pressure, doing all they could to score the second. However, even with three attackers in play, they could not change the score again.
Sparta lost 1-3 and have to wait for the result of Sunday’s match between Plzeň and Jablonec. In case of any point loss of Viktoria, Sparta will become the champions.
