Before coming to Sparta in the winter of 2022, Friis was the head coach of Aalborg, a team in the first danish league. Before that, he worked in the staff of Aarhus, Brentford, Viborg or Midtjylland. He spent sixteen years in the last named club and also worked with Sparta head coach Brian Priske.
