Tomáš Wiesner’s contract expired on June 30. However, Sparta will continue to support Tomáš during his recovery and as he works towards a return to the pitch.
Wiesner began playing for Sparta at the age of seven. He worked his way through all youth categories at Strahov and made his first-team debut in April 2016, aged 19, starting in the second leg of the Czech Cup semifinal against Jablonec alongside several teammates from the B-team.
He spent the next two seasons on loan at Vlašim and Liberec. In 2019, he joined Mladá Boleslav on loan but suffered a serious knee injury in July. He returned to full match fitness in February 2021 and immediately secured a place in the starting eleven under coach Pavel Vrba. Just two months later, he scored his first league goal in a 7–2 win over Teplice.
In the autumn of 2021, Wiesner earned his first call-up to the Czech national team. He made his debut on September 5th in Belgium, coming on in the 77th minute for Adam Hložek. He went on to add two more caps in matches against Wales and Belarus.
The peak of his Sparta career came under Brian Priske, as the academy graduate celebrated two league titles and a domestic cup win with his teammates. Across those title-winning seasons, Wiesner scored six league goals and added six assists.
In the most recent campaign, he featured in the UEFA Champions League, contributing a goal in the second qualifying round away to Shamrock Rovers. He also recorded three assists in a single league match – all of them setting up Lukáš Haraslín’s hat-trick against Karviná.
In total, Tomáš Wiesner made 179 competitive appearances for Sparta, scoring 14 goals and providing 24 assists. Once he recovers fully, new career opportunities await.
Wiesy, thank you for all the years in our jersey. We wish you a speedy recovery.
