The Finnish midfielder of Turkish descent gave himself an early Christmas present in December 2022 by joining Sparta from Lillestrøm. “Of course I want to win the league title. Looking at the table, it's definitely a realistic goal,” he said after signing. Kaan wasted no time making an impact, scoring one goal and providing one assist on his league debut as Sparta beat Mladá Boleslav 4:1.

During Sparta's two title-winning campaigns, Kairinen formed an almost inseparable midfield partnership with Qazim Laçi. He also made his mark in European competition. In August 2023, he helped Sparta qualify for the UEFA Europa League group stage by setting up Asger Sørensen's decisive goal in the play-off second leg against Dinamo Zagreb. Another perfectly timed assist followed in the knockout phase against Galatasaray, where Angelo Preciado's goal put Sparta on course for qualification.
The Finland international also enjoyed memorable moments on Europe's biggest club stage. After Sparta returned to the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 19 years, it took Kairinen just two minutes against Salzburg to become the club's first goalscorer in the competition since 2005. In the second league-phase fixture, he once again showcased his quality by curling a free kick beyond Alexander Nübel and into the corner of the net.

Throughout his time at Letná, Kairinen was the heartbeat of Sparta's midfield, consistently setting the tempo with his passing and vision. He leaves the club having made 151 competitive appearances, scoring 7 goals and providing 24 assists. His popularity within the dressing room was reflected by the fact that his teammates voted him the winner of the club's traditional Players' Player of the Year award last season.
Thank You, Kaan.
