As a player, she competed in the German and Dutch leagues. Wearing the shirt of FFC Heike Rheine she scored 33 goals in 71 matches in the top German division,. After returning to the Netherlands, she played for three clubs: SV Fortuna Wormerveer, FC Twente and Willem II. With Twente she won the Dutch Cup.
A native of Vriezenveen, she moved into coaching immediately after ending her playing career, starting with the Dutch national youth teams. In 2011 she accepted an offer from SC Heerenveen, whose women's team she led for four seasons. Her greatest achievements there were fourth place in the league and reaching the semifinals of the KNVB Cup.
Thanks to her qualities, she became head coach of the Dutch under-16 and under-19 women‘s national teams. She guided the under-19s to four European Championships. In 2018 she gained experience as an assistant coach at the U-20 Women's World Cup, and four years later she led the same team at the World Cup as head coach. In 2022 she was also an assistant coach at the Women's European Championship, where the Dutch team reached the quarterfinals.
Her most recent post was at Feyenoord, where she spent three seasons. In the last one she finished third in the league and led the club into European competition for the first time in its history.
