The young winger, who has Australian citizenship, was born to Sudanese parents in an Egyptian refugee camp. In 2021, he signed a contract with Central Coast Mariners. He quickly made his way into the first team and played in the Australian A-League during the 2021/22 season. His performances also caught the attention of the Australian national team coaches, with whom Garang traveled to the World Cup in Qatar. In January 2023, he transferred to Newcastle United. The English club then sent him on loan to Heart of Midlothian and FC Volendam. In August 2025, he moved to Sparta.
