Hancko joins Feyenoord
Dávid Hancko farewells Sparta and finishes his transfer to the Feyenoord Rotterdam. The twenty-four-year-old defender managed to play 102 matches in the red jersey over three years, became a key player of the team, and one of the most beloved footballers among our fans.
Dávid Hancko came to Sparta in the summer of 2019 on a one-year loan from Fiorentina. In his first year in Sparta, he played 19 league games and scored two goals. Dávid also managed to play two matches in the European League. He added another four games in the MOL Cup, moreover, he scored in the match against Baník, and eventually celebrated winning the trophy with his teammates. In the summer of 2020, Sparta extended his loan for another season.
Thanks to winning the cup, he was given the opportunity to play in the group stage of the European League the following season. He played two games in the competition and even scored against Celtic at Letná Stadium. Unfortunately, because of an injury at the beginning of the year, he was not able to add a larger amount of duels. Hanci played 24 matches in the Czech league, where he scored five goals, and added two more starts in the MOL Cup, which he spiced up with a goal. Throughout the whole year, he was a reliable executor of penalty kicks. At the end of the season, Hancko was already marked as the team's key player and moved to Sparta on a permanent basis.
Last season, Hancko played 30 games in the league and scored seven goals. He scored once again in the MOL Cup, but this time Dávid's goal in the final against Slovácko was not enough to win the trophy. In European competitions, the Slovakian defender added another twelve matches. Two times he was able to score the ball into the net and even scored the winning goal in the match against Glasgow Rangers. In total, Hancko scored 10 times in the season and was the team's second-best scorer.
In this season, Hancko managed to play five matches and every single time he also led the team as captain. In the match against České Budějovice, the Slovak national team footballer played his 102nd match, which unfortunately will be his last for Sparta for some time. Dávid spent three beautiful and unforgettable years in the most beautiful jersey and now he faces a new well-deserved football challenge at Feyenoord.
Hanci, thank you for everything you have done for Sparta. We wish you the best of luck and we will truly miss you!
