Sparta captain David Lafata played his last match at Letná stadium as he announced earlier this month he will retire at the end of this season. Sparta beat Sigma Olomouc 1-0 in his farewell match and he was close to scoring in the second half.
“It was a great. I really enjoyed the last match, the atmosphere and the reception by our fans in overall. It was really emotive for me during the whole day and I was really close to tears after the final whistle and during the lap of honour.”
“I thought about this during whole week but it’s impossible to be prepared on it. It was hard to concentrate on football in overall due to emotions but I’m glad we won and the farewell was better thanks to it.”
David was close to scoring in his last home match but goalkeeper Miloš Buchta saved his header after a corner kick.
“It was close but I hit the place where he was so he was able to save it. It was an ideal match for me as we were ahead and they played only with 10 men but it probably was not my day. But despite I didn’t score I really enjoyed it.”
“We have one last match ahead of us next week and we want to win it, move to third place and make this season better for our fans because it was not a good season in overall.”
“It was an honour to play for Sparta and for these fans. It was always my dream to play for Sparta and I will never forget these years. All clubs I played for deserve the credit but it was great to win my only one league title with Sparta and end my career here.”
