The management of AC Sparta Praha decided to dismiss head coach Václav Jílek because of the unsatisfactory results and team performances. “It was not a simple decision for us. Václav Jílek is a good head coach, but the results and performances were disappointing for us and did not fulfil expectations we have,” says Tomáš Rosický, AC Sparta Praha Sports Director.
Together with Václav Jílek, the assistants Jiří Saňák and Michal Horňák also end in the first team. With immediate effect (from Tuesday's training unit), Václav Kotal takes over the team. Kotal trained ACS reserves in the third division during this season. The reserves, led by an experienced coach, finished second, two points behind Táborsko. Václav Kotal's assistant will be Michal Šmarda, which worked as an assistant coach to Martin Svědík in Slovácko.
“Coach Kotal has a personal connection with Sparta. He knows the club, was here as a player, assistant of the first team and several times as a reserves coach. The team currently needs a coach with such experiences. In the first part of this season, Václav Kotal did a very good job with the reserves, and in the past, he also proved that he can work very well with talented players,” explains Tomáš Rosický.
“The situation is not easy with respect to the players and to the fans,” says the new head coach Václav Kotal. “I want to convince players that what we ask them to do is for their benefit. And to the benefit of Sparta,” he adds.
