Veljko Birmančević played for Čukarički, Malmö and Toulouse before joining Sparta on loan ahead of the 2023/24 season. He began showing his quality soon after arriving, forming a formidable attacking trio with Lukáš Haraslín and Jan Kuchta that caused problems for defences in the Czech league as well as on the European stage.
His impact was quickly reflected in the statistics. In his first season in the red shirt, he recorded 22 goals and 13 assists in 48 competitive appearances. His performances earned him a permanent move to Sparta, after which he celebrated a domestic double and individual awards for both the league’s best player and best foreign player. His form also earned him a place in Serbia’s squad for EURO 2024 in Germany.
Birmančević dealt with several injury issues during the 2024/25 season but still played a major role in Sparta’s return to the Champions League. In the third qualifying round against FCSB, for example, he scored twice and provided two assists across the two legs.
After Brian Priske returned as Sparta’s head coach, the Serbian winger once again established himself in the starting line-up and, with eight goals and four assists, was among Sparta’s most productive players in autumn 2025. He then joined Getafe on loan in the spring but made only six competitive appearances for the Madrid-based club.
Birmančević made 109 appearances for Sparta, scoring 37 goals and providing 21 assists. The Serbian international will now continue his career at Hungarian champions Ferencváros.
