“At Sparta, we started by crashing out of Europe and losing our first domestic match… not many people believed in us back then. In the end, we wrapped up the season as league champions,” Clarup recalled his first year at Letná.
In October 2023, a new contract was signed between Sparta and then-head coach Brian Priske. On that occasion, new deals were also agreed with Lars Friis and Clarup. Together with his colleagues, he helped lead Sparta to defend the league title, win the domestic cup, and reach the UEFA Europa League Round of 16.

His excellent work was further acknowledged when he was invited to join the Danish national team staff for EURO 2024 in Germany. Denmark drew all three matches in Group C – against Slovenia, England, and Serbia – but were eliminated in the Round of 16 by the host nation.
After Brian Priske’s departure, Clarup remained on staff under new head coach Lars Friis. At the start of the season, Sparta qualified for the UEFA Champions League league phase for the first time in 19 years – a milestone the Danish expert helped make possible. Now, a new chapter in his life begins.
Chris, thank you for your dedication and hard work. We wish you the best of luck in your future career!
