The 22-year-old Sparta academy graduate is moving to Bologna

After nearly eight years in our shirt, Martin Vitík is leaving Sparta. The 22-year-old defender will experience his first move abroad, joining Serie A side Bologna FC 1909. Viťas, we’re rooting for you — best of luck in Italy!
Martin started playing football in Králův Dvůr before moving to Tempo in 2016. Just a year later, at age 14, he joined Sparta’s academy and began working his way through the youth ranks.
He made his long-awaited debut for the first team in a Europa League match against Lille — just three years after arriving at Strahov. Not long after, he earned his first start in the starting XI, playing the full 90 minutes against AC Milan.
From early 2021, Martin began appearing regularly in league matches. He opened the following season with the B-team, gaining valuable minutes and experience — and earning a return to the first team thanks to strong performances and three goals in eleven appearances.
He claimed a regular spot in the squad following the arrival of the Danish coaching staff in summer 2022. His first season under Brian Priske ended in triumph, as Sparta lifted its long-awaited 37th league title — the first in nine years. Martin featured in 22 league matches along the way.
The talented centre-back was a key figure in the 2023/24 double-winning team, which also reached the Round of 16 in the Europa League. His four goals contributed to one of the most successful campaigns in recent years. In what turned out to be his final season at Sparta, he also played a big role in helping the club return to the UEFA Champions League group stage after a 19-year wait.
Over 150 appearances in red, two league titles, a domestic cup, a Champions League group stage, and even matches as captain. At 22, Martin Vitík achieved everything he once dreamed of when he first arrived at Letná as a boy.
Viťas, thank you for everything. Wishing you all the best — and maybe, one day, we’ll see you back here again!
