The Albanian midfielder spent two and a half seasons with Sparta

Qazim Laci has joined Turkish side Rizespor. The Albanian midfielder arrived at Letná in December 2022 from Ligue 1. During his two and a half seasons in our jersey, he celebrated two league titles, one domestic cup win and helped the team qualify for the Champions League league phase. Qaz, it’s been hell of a ride! Best of luck in Turkey.
A native of Albania who began his career in the academy of Greek side Olympiacos, Laci became one of several winter signings during the 2022/23 campaign. Alongside his teammates, he played a key role in our stunning spring run to our first title since 2014.
The following season, Laci formed a double pivot with Kaan Kairinen — a midfield pairing Brian Priske relied on both in domestic matches and in the Europa League. That season also saw a rise in Laci’s attacking output. Fans will remember his pinpoint free-kick against Copenhagen and his hat-trick of assists in a 5–1 away win at Jablonec.
The popular Albanian ended that campaign with a league and cup double, and earned a call-up to represent his country at the EURO in Germany, where he featured in all three group matches. In the 11th minute against Croatia, Laci even gave Albania the lead — though it wasn’t enough to secure progression to the knockout stage.
At the start of last season, Qazim was honoured with the captain’s armband in two Champions League qualifiers. His performances helped Sparta reach the league phase of the Champions League for the first time in 19 years. In the opening match, he scored a memorable goal after a slick move past returning Salzburg defenders — a strike that quickly made headlines across the footballing world.
A mainstay in Albania’s starting XI during World Cup qualifying. A fighter who played 113 competitive games for Sparta, scoring 6 goals and adding 18 assists. Qazim Laci now begins a new chapter in Turkey.
Qaz, thank you for all the amazing memories. Good luck on your new journey!
