“Over the past two seasons, Jonatan has scored 40 goals across all competitions, proving himself to be a reliable and accomplished finisher. His ability to score in a variety of ways, combined with his versatility, makes him a striker who can be effective in different tactical systems and against different types of opponents. He is adept at finding space between the lines and can contribute to the team’s build-up play with his football intelligence. At the same time, he excels at operating on the offside line and making runs in behind the defence,” says Tomáš Rosický, Sporting Director of AC Sparta Praha.
Jonatan was brought up in the world of top-flight football by the Norwegian club Bryne, for whom he made his senior debut in the spring of 2016 as a teenager of just fifteen. However, this early start certainly did not herald a smooth transition into the Norwegian top flight. From January 2021, he was part of the first-division side Lillestrøm, for whom he scored on his very first appearance in the Eliteserien. He then went out on loan back to the second division, where he found the net regularly whilst playing for IK Start.
Brunes’ twelve goals over a three-month period convinced Stromsgodset’s managers to sign him from Lillestrøm in August 2022. The striker, then aged 22, thus moved from Stavanger to the Norwegian capital, where he flourished even more. In 33 competitive matches, he scored fourteen goals and provided three assists, paving the way for his first move abroad. Belgian side Leuven paid Stromsgodset over two and a half million euros for him.
In the land of fine chocolate and dark beer, Jonatan spent just one year, during which he scored three goals in the top Belgian league. At the start of the 2024/2025 season, Leuven sent him on loan to Raków, where his scoring form flourished once again. One season later, having scored fourteen goals, the loan turned into a permanent transfer. Back then, one of the Prague clubs was already keen to sign the Norwegian striker.
Brunes has remained loyal to Częstochowa. Last season, he scored 26 goals for the club across all competitions. He also made an appearance at Letná, where Raków – still under the management of Marek Papszun – travelled for a UEFA Conference League league stage match. The November fixture ended in a goalless draw.
Finally, we mustn’t forget Brunes’s roots. As you’re no doubt aware, our new signing is the cousin of another top-class Norwegian striker who scored seven goals at the 2026 World Cup. Alongside Erling Haaland, Jonatan’s sister Emma has also made a name for herself in the world of football, playing in defence for Brøndby in Copenhagen. Another of Jonatan’s cousins, Albert Braut Tjaland, spent four years playing for Molde.
