Joao Grimaldo began his career at Sporting Cristal, where he made his senior debut at just seventeen and won the Peruvian league title with the club. He also gained experience on the South American continent in the Copa Libertadores and with the Peru national team, making his international debut against Brazil in September 2023. After the 2024 Copa América, he moved to Partizan Belgrade. He later joined Riga on loan, where he made 36 competitive appearances, scoring five goals and providing ten assists, and celebrated the Latvian league title. In January 2026, he completed a transfer to Letná.
