In the 3rd round of the Czech post cup, Sparta faced Zlín, currently playing in the 2nd division. The Moravians were a tough opponent, focusing on defence and quick breakaways, but Sparta managed to get the lead and keep the score until the final whistle.
The starting line-up included players recently recovered from injuries and also players of the wider roster. More than four thousands spectators in Zlín watched Tomáš Ujfaluši, Ondřej Švejdík, Marek Matějovský or Lukáš Pauschek.
Sparta got into the first chance of the game, but the home side’s goalkeeper saved Krejčí’s weak shot and Costa missed from the rebound. On the other side, Marek Čech made a spectacular save on Zlín’s Holík, who failed to open the score from a breakaway.
And so it was Sparta to strike first. Matějovský crossed the ball from left and Tomáš Přikryl headed it in to give Sparta the lead in the additional time of the first half.
Sparta could widen the gap early in the second, but Bednář’s header from a good position went just wide. Marek Čech made another great save of the night, tipping Železník’s free kick just over the crossbar.
Sparta managed to keep the score until the final whistle and after the 1-0 win they advance to the next round of the Czech post cup.
