Haraslín named new Sparta captain

Slovak international to lead ACS into the new season wearing the armband

Lukáš Haraslín has been appointed the new captain of AC Sparta Praha’s first team. The Slovak international has made 150 competitive appearances in our shirt and played a key role in winning two league titles and one domestic cup.
The decision was made in mutual agreement between the sporting department and the head coach. Haraslín is entering his fifth season at the club and has long been considered a key figure both on the pitch and in the dressing room. The previous captain, Filip Panák, will continue to play an important leadership role within the team.
“Šulo is taking over captain’s responsibilities – in the dressing room, on matchdays, in front of the media and towards the fans. But to be successful again, the whole team needs to contribute. Everyone has to be aware of their responsibility to the squad. The dressing room must be a strong environment, not built around a single leader, but around a strong group,” explains interim sporting director Tomáš Sivok.
"We have discussed the position of he Captain for the next season together with Tomáš Rosický and Tomáš Sivok. Right at the beginning of these discussions, we were also interested in the opinion of Filip Panák, who wore the armband last season. We decided to choose Lukáš Haraslín as a captain, Filip remains part of the leadership group.
And why Šulo? He is a good choice for us. I think everyone knows him well and knows what he is like... He knows Sparta DNA very well, speaks several languages. And of course he is a very important player for us," says head coach Brian Priske.
“Being the captain of the biggest club in the Czech Republic is a huge honour for me. It’s a new challenge – and I like challenges. I accept it with pride and humility. I know it comes with greater responsibility, not just toward the team but also toward myself. I’ll be standing at the front of the group, but I won’t change who I am. Those who know me understand that well,” says new captain Lukáš Haraslín.
