Austrian star striker Marc Janko becomes the fourth summer signing. Janko joins Sparta after a successful spell in Basel and has signed a two-year deal at Letná.
33 years old Wien native started his football career with Admira and then – after earning success with RB Salzburg – his international adventure started. Janko played for Twente in the Netherlands, for Porto in Portugal, for Trabzonspor in Turkey, for Sydney FC in Australia, and for Basel in Switzerland.
Janko is a three-time Austrian champion, Dutch cup and Supercup winner, he won the Swiss championship twice and the Swiss cup once.
Janko was particularly successful in Australia, despite not winning the championship with Sydney FC. In the 2014-2015 season he was the Hyundai A-League’s top striker and made it to the competition’s top eleven. With sixteen strikes in the season, he became the club’s top striker and made the club record of seven - most consecutive goalscoring appearances. He was also named one of the two strikers in Sydney FC’s team of the decade, among Del Pierro or Karol Kisel.
Janko has been a regular player for team Austria as well. He has made 61 appearances, scoring 28 goals. He played at the European championship in 2016, making two appearances in Group F matches. He is now preparing with team Austria for the Sunday’s match in Ireland.
