The deadline day in Europe’s top leagues have also brought a change to our squad. Veljko Birmančević is heading to the Iberian Peninsula, joining Getafe on loan until the end of the current season. The agreement also includes a purchase option.
The 27-year-old Birmančević previously played for Čukarički, Malmö and Toulouse before arriving at Letná on loan ahead of the 2023/24 season. He began showing his qualities shortly after his arrival. Together with Lukáš Haraslín and Jan Kuchta, he formed a feared attacking trio during the autumn that troubled defences both in the Czech league and on the European stage.

Overall, Birma made 109 competitive appearances in the red jersey across the league, domestic cup and European competitions, recording 37 goals and 21 assists, making a significant contribution to the team’s attacking output. After his first season at Letná, he was named both Player of the Season and Best Foreign Player in the league, which led us to activate the purchase option and secure the services of the Serbian international during that campaign.
In the 2024/25 season, Birmančević had to deal with several injury issues, yet still played a key role in our qualification for the UEFA Champions League. In the two-legged tie against FCSB, he recorded two goals and two assists. Following Brian Priske’s return, Birmančević became a regular starter under the Danish coach and, with a tally of 8 goals and 4 assists, ranked among Sparta’s most productive players last autumn.
Best of luck, Birma!
