MABIL | I feel proud and humble
Awer received the Young Australian of the Year award primarily because of his work with Barefoot to Boots. He also helped Australia to the World Cup. It was him who scored the last penalty in the shootout against Peru. The condition was also that he is under 30 years old.
"I feel proud, but at the same time of course very humbled because my family has given me this opportunity to be myself, also to help other people and the opportunity to use my platform as a footballer to spread some message and help people," said Awer shortly after the ceremony. He was unable to receive the award in person because he is currently preparing with the team for their first league match in Olomouc.
"It is very important for me to be focused, mentally and physically ready for this game because our league return and we have one goal and that is to bring home the championship, so we have to chase for it. We are highly motivated; I can feel it in the group. I'm really motivated to help us win."
