Sørensen joined Sparta in July 2022 after spells in Germany with Jahn Regensburg and 1. FC Nürnberg. In his first season, he helped bring the league title back to Letná, scoring an important goal in the memorable 3:2 derby victory over Slavia in the championship group.

Alongside his league winners’ medal, Sørensen was named the league’s Best Defender, an award voted for by the captains and coaches of all top-flight teams. He also received the award for the league’s Best Foreign Player of the 2022/23 season.
Although minor injuries kept him out for several matches the following campaign, he remained a key part of Brian Priske’s starting line-up, forming a defensive trio with Filip Panák and Ladislav Krejčí.

Sørensen scored another important goal early in the following season to help Sparta overcome Dinamo Zagreb, paving the way for a place in the Europa League group stage. Nine months later, the celebrations at Letná were even greater, as Asgi lifted both the league title and Czech Cup trophy.
The calm and composed Dane was also highly valued in the dressing room for helping new foreign players settle into life at Sparta. It was therefore no surprise that he regularly wore the captain’s armband in the absence of the club’s regular captains, including Champions League league-phase matches away at Feyenoord and Bayer Leverkusen, as well as Conference League fixtures the following season.

His final goal in the red shirt came in perhaps the most talked-about match in Czech football history – the May derby away at Slavia. Early in the second half, Sørensen rose highest to head Sparta back into the lead, once again wearing the captain’s armband.
Asger Sørensen made 148 competitive appearances for Sparta, scoring an impressive 13 goals and providing four assists. A two-time Czech champion, he leaves his mark among the most significant foreign players in Sparta’s history.
Thank You, Asgi.
