1893-1918: The birth of character

Every way has its own beginning and the Spartan's one dates back to 16. November 1893, when the sports club AC Královské Vinohrady was founded. One year later already partition carried the proud name AC Sparta. History of Sparta forms lots of famous, half-forgotten and completely forgotten names of players, coaches and functionaires. Let's remember those who have been there for 125 years of great victories, but also the bitter defeats of our club.

The line - up was selected by the chairman of the sports journalists Club and co-author of the book Iron Sparta - Zdeněk Pavlis

There is a lot of great players and sportsmen, who may have gone on to be famous in other sports, started writing and wrote the beginnings of Sparta football in the years before the First World War. Even the great comedian Vlastimil, if you prefer Vlasta Burian, was one of them, because he also defended Spartan goal in competitions and international competitions and his fame on the field and on theatre boards overshadowed even such goalkeepers, such as Soustružník, Tittl, Mates and Zadák.

So just go young, maybe we'll keep them here.

Personalities

Václav Rudl
Václav Rudl

(*31. 1. 1872 - †11. 6. 1913) The biggest credit for the fact that in spring of 1894 the AC Vinohrady began to devote itself to “soccer ball” was given to the Rudl brothers - Václav, Bohumil, Rudolf. They brought friends to the Club, mainly Karlin's Inavalidovna. The first captain and coach of these football pioneers became the oldest of the Rudls - Václav. He soon became secretary and welcomed with jubilation the proposal to change the nape of AC Sparta.

Jaroslav Červený
Jaroslav Červený

(*1. 6. 1895 - †4. 5. 1950) He joined Sparta in 1914 and lived through a period of crisis, rise and above all great glory in the Iron Team. He played well in any position, once even replacing the injured goalkeeper Peyer, but the role of left midfielder suits him best. He enjoyed great popularity with the public, especially for his inimitable dribbling. He was one of the players who can spice up a perfect, dedicated and combative football performance with something extra to warm the hearts of the spectators. And that was literally juggling ball technique. In 1926, during Spartan's trip to America, he could not resist the tempting offer of Sparta Chicago and decided to stay overseas. But a year later, disappointed, he returned home and wore the red jersey until 1931. He played 394 matches and scored 65 goals.

Antonín Fivébr
Antonín Fivébr

(*22. 2. 1888 - †26. 2. 1973) With his technical play and overview, he attracted the attention of Sparta as youth of the Old Town Olympia, so that in 1909 he put on the jersey of our first team. He was brave in personal battles, persistent and tenacious, technically advanced with a sense of precision passing. He was the best header at that time. With Pilát formed the first tandem in Czech Football in the middlefield. More precisely a great axis, on whose kicks almost all the actions of the Spartan team were born. He played 157 games for Sparta and scored five goals.

Antonín Janda
Antonín Janda

(*21. 9. 1892 - †26. 11. 1960) He joined Sparta in 1916 and spent the first two years in very difficult times. In that wartime period, our team went from defeat to defeat. Literally everything was missing, but Janda's club loyalty saved Sparta in the end. In 1918 it was already dawn for a wonderful time in which this footballer would play a key role. He scored 284 goals in a red jersey. He was famous for his bald head and after an eye injury his nickname was Očko. Spartan fans loved him just they couldn't understand where so much power, speed and charge came from that bulky body.

Vlasta Burian
Vlasta Burian

(*9. 4. 1891 - †31. 1. 1962) In July 1914, Sparta missed goalkeeper and this later king comedians in a corner of the booth just whispered that he would give it a try between the sticks. He made great saves in the first game, and when he made his mark in the 3:0 win over Slavia, he secured a solid place in the lineup. He played almost a hundred games in a red jersey until 1917.

Playing in Sparta's goal on Sundays, hearing the cheers of the barriers, was a much greater pleasure for me than if I was carried in the Arena every Sunday afternoon with laurel wreaths. Playing the eleventh soloist with the Letná stars Hoyer, Pospisil, Fivébro, Káďa, Šroubek, Pilát, Janda and Špindler - that was my whole world.
