Sparta victorious in the Prague derby

David Lafata scored twice to secure the sweetest win

Share

Sparta did it again! The captain David Lafata netted twice in the second half and Sparta defeated their city rivals 2-0.
As Přikryl and Juliš were the only injured players missing, the headcoach Lavička sent out the strongest starting eleven.
Sparta were more active in the first half, as the home side focused mostly on the defence and were put under a constant pressure.
Krejčí failed in Sparta’s biggest chance of the first half, firing wide with his shot from inside the box. Slavia’s GK Hrubeš had to make a good save a couple of minutes later against Lafata’s finish after a set piece.
In the final minutes of the first half a penalty should have been called after Černý’s handball in the box, however, no call had been made.
Slavia increased the pace in the second half, which resulted in two good chances for the home team, but Bičík did a great job in the goal that night.
And so it was Sparta to open the score. Dočkal crossed the ball from the right and David Lafata makes no mistakes with his headers.
Five minutes later, Lafata could score his second after another handball in the box – and finally a penalty – but the captain only hit the crossbar from the spot.
Slavia then put Sparta under a pressure and had a couple of good chances, but David Bičík was Sparta’s most important man on the field, making a fantastic save on Zmrhal’s 100% goal chance.
Ten minutes ahead of the final whistle, the captain scored his second of the night, striking after Kadeřábek’s cross and Krejčí’s header back into the box.
Sparta won 2-0 and celebrates another win in the famous Prague derby.
