It was a draw again! Even though Sparta got an early lead, they earned only a point for a 1-1 draw which brings them another step closer to their group stage goal.
David Lafata and Jakub Brabec returned to the squad after an injury, while a fracture in a face couldn’t keep Matěj Hybš out of play as well. On the other side Klaas-Jan Huntelaar started from the very beginning.
Sparta started the match off the best way possible, with David Lafata opening the score with a header six minutes into the match.
However, fifteen minutes later Goretzka fell down after Costa’s challenge and Geis made no mistake from a penalty spot.
Schalke had more posession and Goretzka was close to giving them the lead, but his sharp shot from the edge of the box was well saved by Bičík.
Chances were coming in the second half as well – Fährmann saved Dočkal’s shot with a tip of his shoe and Hojbjerg hit the bar with his lovely shot on the other side.
When Mareček missed the goal by inches with his one timer and Bičík saved Di Santo’s dangerous header, the match ended with a draw.
