The 9th round of the Czech Gambrinus liga meant the famous Prague derby between Sparta and Slavia. Sparta have never lost in newly reconstructed Eden Arena – until now. Slavia’s Martin Latka scored the game-deciding goal with a header in the second half.
Sparta were missing Vidlička and Matějovský, so Zápotočný and Holek got the chance in the starting eleven.
The Eden arena saw an even first half, with a couple of chances on both sides. However, Vaclík saved Petrák’s shot from a distance, and Kweuke and Švejdík missed the goal on the other side.
Sparta started the second half off with Krejčí’s cross from the left and Hušbauer almost reached the ball in front of the empty net. Slavia had the chance to go ahead just a couple of minutes after, when Pamić lost the ball and offered a massive chance to Mičola. The home side’s midfielder was trying to find Škoda in front, but Hušbauer saved the away team.
The only goal of the match came after 73 minutes of play. Mičola found unmarked Martin Latka in the box and the home team’s defender headed it in – 1:0. Sparta put the home team under a pressure in the final minutes of the match, but couldn’t score the equaliser.
Sparta lost their first derby since October 2008.
