Sparta are delighted to announce another signing for the season. Petr Jiráček comes from Hamburger SV to bolster the midfield, signing a 4-year contract with Sparta.
Petr Jiráček was raised in Sokolov, spending two seasons with their first team, before joining Viktoria Plzeň. He became one of the key parts in Viktoria’s rise, winning a championship title and playing in the Champions League group stage.
At the end of 2011, Jiráček was transferred to VfL Wolfsburg, but his spell was not successful there, as he was struggling with an injury. In 2012, he was transferred once again, this time to Hamburger SV. Hamburg were three points short a spot guaranteeing European cups in Jiráček’s first season with the club, but avoided relegation in the play-off the season after. In total, Jiráček played in 66 Bundesliga matches, scoring four goals.
Petr Jiráček has been a national player since 2011, but was not getting called-up lately, as he was not playing much in HSV. He played an important part in 2011 and 2012 though. In the EURO 2012 qualification play-off he scored one of the goals against Montenegro and helped his team to secure the spot in the final tournament. In Poland, he scored twice in the group stage against Greece and home team. In total, Jiráček scored three goals in his 28 international matches.
